West Family Leads Campaign for New Facility

Based on their history of dedication to the Worcester County Developmental Center, it made perfect sense for members of the Coates family to step forward when the organization was seeking leadership for its fundraising campaign.

Dan and Sandy Coates West were named co-chairs of the Working Toward a Brighter Future campaign earlier this year. Their goal is to raise $2.5 million to construct a new Worcester County Developmental Center.

Betty Wilde to be Honorary Chair

A sister’s lifetime of love and devotion brought Betty Wilde to her latest assignment — serving as an Honorary Chair of the campaign to build a new facility for WCDC.

The Ocean City resident was born in Roanoke, Virginia. Her father was a railroad employee. When Betty was 10, her sister was born with Down’s syndrome.

“We all loved Sylvia so much,” Betty said. “But I also saw what an impact her disability had on our family’s life.”

That impression led Betty to make a $250,000 pledge to the Brighter Future campaign, in addition to a promised bequest to help with ongoing operational costs at the new Center in Newark, MD.
